One of my most favourite things to do in Autumn is rereading books from my childhood which feature fictional heroines I’ve grown up loving and admiring. As I know these characters so well, it’s like visiting old friends. I love falling back into their adventures and reliving all their stories. It’s so comforting to travel through Wonderland with Alice or bring a long abandoned, secret garden back to life with Mary Lennox. I’m looking forward to daydreaming with Anne in Green Gables and dancing with Posey in Ballet Shoes.
Another character from a series of books I loved when I was very little, is Judy from The Tree That Sat Down and later on her daughter Jill in The Stream That Stood Still and The Mountain of Magic.
This is a lesser known book series by Beverley Nichols. I’m sure fans of Alice in Wonderland and the Chronicles of Narnia will enjoy it very much. If you’re looking for simple fantasy, adventure, fairytale-ish story set in a magical wood I highly recommend The Tree That Sat Down. I love the world this series is set in. It reminds me of my childhood dreams of living in a hollow tree.
